This year the Eurovision song contest is held in Baku, Azerbaijan. On this occasion BAKU magazine (published by Conde Nast in London) asked Mr. Simon de Pury, chairman of the Phillips de Pury auction house and one of the major players of the contemporary art world, to run a similar contest for visual artists.

Mr. de Pury selected Ruslan Vashkevich as his favorite artist from Belarus with the painting "Madame Bonjour", saying about Ruslan: "Vashkevich's figurative paintings have a strikingly irreverent, humorous and sensual approach".

Ruslan Vashkevich was chosen by Mr. de Pury alongside such giants of contemporary art scene as Gerhard Richter (representing Germany), David Hockney (Great Britain), Maurizio Cattelan (Italy) and Marina Abramovic (Serbia).
