[gallery of Sergei Kiryuschenko] In his perceptional and intellectual relations and interactions with the reality as well as in his inclination for abstract form, Sergei Kiryuschenko approached the subject matter of conceptual project closer than any Belarusian painter. Sergei Kiryuschenko evolved from expressively emotional and utterly pictorial elements of his early works to intellectually mediated and logically arranged plastic structures of recent years. Despite an element of dramatic nature and passion in them, one can see a strong geometrical and organized beginning. And the method of shaping is like the logical procedures of thinking. The audience is shown the process of matter being structured, the process developing in accordance with some specified module. The plastic structure-scheme formed on a base of that module and the module itself are not only a framework and signs-symbols of modern visual culture and modern life. These signs-symbols contain a lot of meanings: visual, mental, spiritual and communicative. It’s interesting that the break that occurred in Sergey’s creative thinking wasn’t caused by some specified conceptual program. It happened on purely visual level. It was a highly complex process of contemplation of the reality in a trans-like state. This process was the one of the complete autonomy from the social, national and cultural traditions. It also took the artist to the level of possibilities where he could practice the perpetual peering into the infinity of pure form. And his “peering” has an intellectual rather than emotional quality to it. Exactly this quality inspires the series of Sergey’s works and organizes them in accordance to rules untraditional to painting. Sergei Kiryuschenko is an expert without a shadow of a doubt. He arranges his rhythmic arrays with filigree work; and the spot-surfaces of the local colors are painted using various methods and surprising resourcefulness. And the audience can sense his deep love for what he does… Sergei Kiryuschenko was born in Chita, Russia in 1951.
